WAIHI NEWS.

[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] . Waihi, Wednesday. The Waihi Cooperative Society held a lively meeting last night over the management, and it was resolved, "That the services of the secretary (Mr. Boss) be dispensed with, and that the manager (Mr. Comngham) act in the dual capacity of manager and secretary." The president (Mr. Sail), vicepresident, and committee then resigned in a body as a protest. The election of newofficers resulted in Mr. Parkinson being elected president and Mr. Duudas tice-presidtrit. It has now again been settled that the erection of the municipal buildings will be proceeded with. It is understood that the work is to be -undertaken forthwith.

A meeting of , the : Waihi Hospital Board was held on Tuesday evening, Mr. A. Katz being voted to the- chair. A demand from the hospital trustees was received for tho annual contribution of £75 for the maintenance of the hospital. The grant was passed, payment to bcr made quarterly. It was decided that £50 be set aside to meet any extraneous expenditure. A resolution was also carried, '"That Mr. Collins, secretary of tho Hospital Conference, be communicated with with regard to having a hospital demonstration on a Sunday afternoon." This concluded the business. At the Borough Council meeting on Tuesday evening the sum of £1147 was passed for payment on account of the maintenance of the Paeroa-Waihi main road. The Finance Committee reported that, in respect of the sum of £56 contained in the County Council's demand, they considered that the amount should be paid under protest, as the expenditure was incurred in widening the main road between the railway bridge and Karangahake, and therefore would not be considered an item under the head of maintenance. Mr. Campbell also referred to the very unsatisfactory state of the road. He considered the borough was being bluffed by th« County Council, inasmuch as that the latter had large quantities of road metal stacked, and yet the road required the metal badly. The road was, he contended, in bad order now, and would be much worse as the winter approached. On his motion, '4 was resolved, "That the borough engineer inspect the road and report to next meeting."
