DEATH OF LADY SEE.

WIDESPREAD SYMPATHY.

By Telegraph.— Press Association.—Copyrights. SVDNT.Ti March 16. Lady See, wife of the Premier of New South Wales, who had b«en ailing for several months, dkd peacefully this morning. She -was much beloved for her charitable acts, and widespread sympathy is felt for Sir John See and family.

Sir John See, the Premier of New. South.' Wales, who is accompanied by his youngest daughter, his son, and his private secretary (Mr. E. B. Harkness), arrived in Auckland by the Rotoiti yesterday morning. It was his intention to go to Rotorua by to-day's express, with a view to spending a fortnight in the thermal district. His plans have, however,, undergone an entire change in consequence of the sad news, received by cable, of the somewhat sudden demise of Lady See. Sir John has abandoned his intention of visiting Botorua, and will return to Sydney by the Mokoia on Monday next. Lady See, who was 50 years of age, was not in good health when Sir John left Sydney, but there was no reason to anticipate anything so serious, and the news of her death came, therefore, as, a great shock to her husband. His object in coming to New Zealand was to.seek rest. after an attack of prostration from, overwork, and he has benefited greatl> by his { stay at.Haiuner.

Sir John See has been the recipient of a large budget of telegrams, expressing sympathy with him and his family in 'connection with the death of. Lady See, among them being messages from the following :-- The Governor of New South Wales and Lady Rawson, his colleagues in the New South Wales Ministry, Lord Mayor and aldermen of Sydney, Justice Sir Edmund Barton, the Right Hon. R. J. Seddon, Sir Joseph Ward, the Hon. 0. H. Mills (Wellington), Sir William Lyne (Minister for Trade and Customs), Mayor and aldermen of Grafton (Sir John's constituency), the police of New South Wales (of which Sir John is Ministerial head), Sydney Chamber of Commerce, Public Service Association of New South Wales, Under-Secretary and officers of Chief Secretary's Department, Sydney, the Sydney Liedertafel (of which Sir John is president), North Coast Steamship Company (Sydney), Mr. James Mills' (manager •Union Steamship Company). ,
