MOUNT. EDEN" WE3LEYAN CHURCH SOCIAL. The anniversary celebrations in : connection with the Mount Eden> Wesleyan Methodist /; Church were continued last evening: with a social and meeting held in the church build-, ing, which was tastefully decorated with bunting for the occasion. The Rev. T. T. _ Thomas presided, and there was a very fail •'.;:'; attendance of church ; members. ; During the ■ V evening the chairman made reference to theprogress made, and ? Mr. Neville Newcomb, secretary, to the trustees, submitted a report, which disclosed an increased membership -and a satisfactory position financially for so ':-'. young a;church. ■•"- Instrumental and vocal items by members contributed to a pleasant social gathering. * ~ .■ -'■ ,■; THE CENTBAJ MISSION. - A very happy company of friends and • .'- members of the mission met at the Albertstreet Hall last evening to partake of « social cup of tea on the occasion of the departure to Ireland of Mrs. W. H. ' Smith, the wife of the superintendent of the mission* The Rev. Butler spoke of the great friend he had found in Mrs. Smith, who was always . ready to accompany, him on a 'visit' to ; the . poor or sick, and helped liberally with her purse. Mr. Lock (the ■■ Sunday-school superintendent) Mr. Bouskill (the choirmaster),. . Miss Dewar (on behalf of the Christian Endeavourers),, Mr. Goooh (the bandmaster), Mrs. Hutchison (the matron of the Door of Hope), and Mrs. Thorpe (representing the visiting sisters), all spoke-in the highest terms of Mrs. Smith's sterling Christian character. The visiting sisters presented her . with a silver chain-purse and a silver card , case. Mr. W. fL Smith replied suitably on. behalf of Mrs. Smith, and thanked the - donors for their kind testimonial. He said ,s that Mrs. Smith was going to visit Porto- .- ferry, the place of her birth and early days, and he trusted the trip would be highly beneficial to he» health. - ; GREY -LYNN" -.REFORM ASSOCIATION. [ An enthusiastic meeting of the Central Committee of the Grey Lynn Municipal Reform Association was held last night, when very encouraging reports were received from,. the board committees. The question of theapproaching departure of Mr. Proad, r member of the Council,'; on, a visit to. the Old Country was discussed, and as it is understood it is his intention to ask for leave the |C association!; expressed the opinion that it is not fair to the burgesses that they should be practically disfranchised fox seven months. They therefore decided to reauest Mi. Proud ,'•-.::. to resign. The association also passed a resolution protesting against the notice of mo- - - tion of Mr. MoMaster, to relieve the town clerk of the position of returning officer, ho having discharged the duties with ability and =' J" impartiality. ONE-TREE HELL ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the One-tree Hill Road Board was held in the Newmarket Hall on Tuesday. Present. Messrs. E. W. Bur- ;, ton, W. Wall, and the Hon H. Devereux. '■■',) Mr. H. B. Morton wrote tendering his resignation as chairman of the Board, and Sir. Burton was elected; chairman for the- remainder of the year., The Chairman report- . ed that the work of tarring and sanding the footpaths from Coffey's Hill to Market Road ,\ ; was now completed, as was also the footpath from the Harp of 'Erin Hotel to Rockfield Road. In reply to a request from the manager of the Prison Gate'.-•• Home, it was resolved, "That the rates due on the property be remitted." A letter was received from" the town clerk,, Auckland, J; stating that the City Council _ had selected a•'-,;. site at Otahnhu for the erection of an abat-' a toir for the city; and suggesting that the city abattoir become the authorised:abattoir for the whole of the districts in and... around 5 Auckland.
