The Mayor explained that the meeting was called 'to consider the question of municipal Wildings, and also a notice of mo- • . tion concerning the engineer and the employment of teams, but as the engineer was -still too ill to attend lie would like to defer the matter. Messrs. Foster. Saunders, and , Slevin objected, and it was decided to go on with the business. The Mayor then moved to rescind a clause in the Works Committee report, adopted on June 12, 1902, to the effect ' that no more than . two teams belonging to one owner shall be employed except under , . extraordinary circumstances, and to resolve in place thereof that the employment of ■teams in-future be left in the hands of the e-ngineei, with « recommendation to the- en;v :. . gineer that be continue the old arrangement , as far as possible. After considerable discussion the motion was put and lost, five voting for and six against. On the question Y; _ of the erection of municipal buildings, the \ Mayor again suggested that the matter be ■deferred till the engineer was able to attend. ; After some discussion Mr. Finp moved and Mr. Kyburn seconded, "That the matter of municipal buildings be adjourned till the Council have full information of its financial ' v position, particularly with reference to the gold duty." This was carried, after considerable discussion. ;.\ . : A. Kitting of the Domain Board was held ,;'■;■,> afterwards. A request from the Waihi Hack .'- " Racing Club for permission to re-erect a fence on the racecourse reserve, the Council to s provide material, and also for permission to .;:'') charge for admission at- the race meeting on • November 21, was granted, the cost of material for the fence being limited to £5.
