Mr. Amold-Forster was also reelected, polling, 3912, Mr. "Patrick Demansey (Nationalist) 3671. Mr. Lyttelton, the new Colonial Secretary, was re-elected, polling 2689, the voting for his opponent, Mr. Berridge, being 2499. ' Many Liberals who in 1900. voted for the Government rather than weaken the Ministry over the Boer war now voted for Mr. Berridge. The Education Bill was also a factor in the polling.
