The Canterbury 'limes states that the New Zealand Draughts Association has decided to hold a junior championship tourney in connection with its annual New Zealand Championship Tournament, hoping, by this means to encourage young players to come forward and enter the lists m competition. The animal tournament for the Championship of, New Zealand will be played on the " two-life knock-out system," and will be open to all New Zealand. The prizes will be as follow: - First £15, championship and silver cup; second, £10; third, £5. Entrance lee for both events will be 10s 6d. The junior tourney will be played on the " all-roiuad system," and is open to all New Zealand'} players who have never won first second, or third prize in a New Zealand championship tournament. The prize-list 13: —First, £8, junior championship and go! i medal; second'. £5; third. £4; fourth, £2 The winner of the junior tourney cannot, again enter for this event. The secretary of the N.Z.D.A is in communication with the Wanganui Draughts Association, who will have the arrangements in connection with the tournaments under its control. A com-) mittco will be formed early next month, and, as Wanganui has worked a championship tourney previously, and with every success, it may confidently be assumed that 1904 will see one of the most successful gatherings yet held under the auspices of the N.Z.D.A. The N.Z.D.A. has 'guaranteed £25 of the prize-money. The secretary will have lists and tickets out. during November, when lie hopes to receive a ready response to the call for subscriptions.
The match for the London Challenge Cup between \V. Scott and E. L. Benson. was conceded in favour of the former, the final scora standing: Scott, ,2; Benson. 1.; drawn. 2. Benson resigned and immediately challenged again. Mr. I>. G. McKelvie'a challenge was ineligible, as ho has not resided the requisite twelve months in London.
