NEIGHBOURLY !
A retired sea captain and a lawyer, who were always at loggerheads, lived next door to each other. One very windy niehti the lawyer was - reading a book in hi* study, when a terrible crash upstairs startled him.
Upon investigation, he found that a chimney had hurled itself through his roof, doing considerable damage; and lie soon discovered that it was the sea captain's chimney. Hastening down to his library, he* pulled out his law books and hunted up several cases devising and scheming how be could secure satisfaction from the captain.
_ While thus engaged, a note arrived from his enemy that read as follows:"If you don't return those bricks at once, I will put the matter in the hands of the law."

Oue of the best-known writers on rowing is noted for his likeness to the late Archbishop of Canterbury. It is told of him that on one occasion he boarded an omnibus, and the conductor promptly tripped up on to the roof and informed the driver that the Archbishop or his twin brother had just got inside. " You'd better arst 'im," said the driver, " if you ain't suer." "Right oh !" replied the conductor, and, descending, he approached the supposed archbishop, who was reading his paper in the interior of the vehicle.
" Beg your reverence'." pardon," said the conductor, " but might you be the Archbishop of Canterbury " Oh i go to the deuce," said the eminent writer, who did not- care to be disturbed.
The conductor returned to the top of the 'bus, and bent to whisper in the driver's ear, "It's all light. Bill: it is 'is 'oliness!"— London Evening News.
