OBITUARY.

The many friends of the late Mrs. Alice Cottle, of Aravva-street, Auckland, were sorrv to hear of her death, which occurred on Ji'lay 8. Mis. Cottle came to New Zealand in 1863, with her husband, the late Rev. Henrv Wyatt Cottle!, and a family of 10. Deceased leaves behind her three sons and four daughters. >. Miss Isabella Graham, sister of the late Mr. Robert Graham, and a lady well known to Aucklanders, died at Rotorua on Mav 5, in her 66th year. Amiable and kindly disposed, the news of her death will be received with regret by many outside the family circle and relatives. The body was brought to town, and buried in the Synionds-street Cemetery, the interment being private. _ The Rev. Mother "St. Theresa, provincial of the Order of Our Lady of Missions, died on May 3 after a prolonged illness, at the monastery of the Sacred Heart, in Christchurch. The late religeuse was a native of France, and after spending 12 years at Deal, England, was appointed to the position she held at' her death in the order in New Zealand, where she had resided for 10 years. The late rev. mother was a niece of the late Bishop Elloy, of Central Oceana, including Tonga and Samoa, and a cousin of Father Hurlin, S.M., of Fiji. * Mrs. Alexander Mowat, one of the earliest settlers in the Awatere district, died on May 8 at the age of 73. Mrs. Mowat arrived at Nelson by the ship Mary Ann in 1842.

Another of our early colonists passed away on. May 13 at Devonport, in the person of Mrs. Mackenzie, who, with her late husband, Duncan Mackenzie, arrived in Auckland in 1860, 43 years ago, in the ship Phcenix, which left Liverpool in command of Captain Brown. Mis. Mackenzie was well known both at Thames and in Auckland. : An old settler passed away on the 19, th inst. in the person of Mr. Wm. Seweil, at the age of 82 years. Deceased arrived in the colony about forty years ago. He was very highly esteemed for Ills sterling qualities and neighbourly disposition. Mr. Sewell was a native of Kent, England. He leaves a widow, one son, and four grandchildren to mourn their loss.

A well-known citizen in the person of Mr. W. S. Montgomery passed away at Lake Takapuna on May 22. Tho deceased, who was highly esteemed by those by whom he was known, leaves a large grown-up family. The Rev. Father Bogue, parish priest of Ross and South West land, died at Ross on May 22, after a long illness. Deceased was only 31 years of age, and was very popular amongst all classes. A veteran of the Waikato war named John Fred. Alirens, one of the party who attended the laying of the foundation atone of the Veterans' Home on Monday, died very suddenly just after the ceremony. Another of Auckland's early colonists has passed away in the person of Mr, Edmund Ellittgham, of Custom-street, whose death took place at the age of 63 years, at his residence, lvhyber Pass Road, on Monday. Deceased was a native of Buckinghamshire, and came to the colony by the ship Pegasus in the yeiir 1864. lie was a man of sterling character and a quiet, kindly disposition. Deceased leaves a widow, two sons, and four daughters.
