Seldom is sucb a collection of fine pictures presented in any illustrated journal, and the present issue of the News is admirably adapted for posting to friends abroad by the outgoing 'Frisco mail. One of the ohief features of the issue is a series of photographs depicting the consecration of the new Bishop of Auckland. Scenes in the procession of clergy and choristers, views of St. Mary's Cathedral and Bishopscourt, the first New Zealand photograph of the Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Neligan and family, together with a splendid double-page picture of the bislwps and clergy who took part in the consecration ceremony. A special portrait of the new Bishop in his robes will be welcomed and kept as a souvenir of the occasion. The formal opening of the Victoria School for Maori Girls, which was performed on Friday last by His Excellency the Governor, is well illustrated. The arrival of the viceregal party, the assembled company taking part in the service, the departure of the Governor and Lady Ranfurly, together with an excellent view of the school, depict the most notable incidents during the afternoon. Scenes on board the Pacific Cable Company's new steamer Iris include groups of the officers, engineers, and crew, interior views of the saloon, electrical testing-room and engineroom, some of the appliances used in picking up and paying out cables, and an excellent view of the new steamer in Auckland' Harbour. Scenes in Now Zealand's principal cities comprise industrial lifo in Wellington, views of Wellington city and suburbs; Princesstreet, Dunedin, looking south; of Christchurch from the Cathedral, and a favourite promenr.de beside the Avon River, Christchurch. Bush life and scenes in Auckland Province are represented by picturesque glimpses of the Northern bush, hauling logs with a bullock team in Kennedy Bay, and an attractive full-page picture of a timber tram in the Omana Bush, Northern Wairoa.

The recent Ministerial visit to Auckland was one of the most important and fruitful visits the Premier has paid to the Northern centre. During the tour Mr. Seddon and his colleagues were kept busy with affairs of State and presiding at local functions in the various places touched at. The Premier performing the opening ceremony at the new hospital, Waihi; Mr. Seddon addressing the residents of Rotorua, the Hon. Mr. HallJones and the Reception Committee at Waipu, the Premier unveiling the Bradford memorial at Paeroa, and a group at Government House, Auckland, at the swearing-in of the Maori King Mahuta as a member of the Executive Council, serve to convey a knowledge of the work accomplished by the Ministers while in Auckland.

Numerous other groups, views, and portraits, together with an abundance of highclass letterpress, contribute to a most attractive number and a publication which for general public interest stands unrivalled in the colonies.
