In March last it was reported that the monks of Danilov Monastery, Moscow, decoyed the daughter of an Englishman named Whalley, the manager of a mill at Moscow, and so shockingly maltreated her that she died after the police had released her from the monastery. The Russian Government, yielding to pressure by Great Britain, ordered an inquiry into the matter. It is now stated that Miss Whalley's body has been discovered on • a sand heap in the river below Moscow, the indications being that 3he was accidentally drowned.
