A BRAVE GIRL.

TO THE EDITOR Sir, —About six weeks ago a little girl a.bout 12 years old accidentally caught fire. How the accident actually occurred I am not able properly to explain. It happened in the open air, and in a few minutes the helpless child was enveloped in flames. A great many ran away screaming and crying for help. A young girl, seeing the danger, ran to the rescue, and nobly did she battle with the flames. With her naked hands she tore the burning dress off the child and saved her life. Miss B.'s hands were terribly burned, j in fact they are not healed yet. We have j heard of many brave deeds performed by I some of.our soldiers on tho battlefields dur- | ing the South African campaign, but 110 \ braver can be recorded than the heroic act | of this young girl, who was instrumental in ' saving the life of the child. I have been at- I tending the little sufferer, so I know the eir- i cumstances, and certainly consider such con- j duet worthy of recognition.—l am. etc.. May 26, 1903. C.M.
