PUKEKURA ROAD BOARD.

Trott, £15; J. , Bell, £1 ss; Lands Department, £1 js. Closed Road: The three settlers interested wrote agreeing to, the closing of an unused portion of the Puahae Road. Government Grants: It was decided to anply. for a sum of £100 to be placed on tho •hstimates for the Puahae Koud. Proposed Change of Road: In the matter of closing the far end of the Puahae Road, it was decided to follow the usual custom of placing the matter before the ratepayers at a special meeting. Cutting Up Roads: A ratepayer complained of the manner in which roads in the district were being cut up by settlers in the Maimgatautau settlement carting flax over them. It was decided that as the offending districts were not yet constituted local bodies nothing could be done.

Gravel Pit: It was mentioned that several settlers were anxious to avail themselves i' the Hoard's offer to allow a gravel pit to be opened in Southey-street, and the chairman agreed to point out the locality. Miscellaneous: Mr. Reynolds was empowered to have some necessary small repairs attended to.

Tea-tree: Permission was given for the cutting of some tea-tree on the roadway opposite Mr. Speake's. Domain Board: The Board then resolved itself into the Cambridge West Domain Board, the same members being present. Mr. Keeley entered a protest against payment of registration fees to the Hoard's solicitors, saying lie would pay no other person but the clerK to the Board. Seme discussion ensued between the chairman and Mr. Keeley regarding the rights and wrongs of various points involved in leases and fees attaching thereto. Mr, Keeley said lie had interviewed the Premier re the matter, and had in course of preparation a petition praying that in all future lease conditions a stipulated sum for fees shall ba stated, and that registration of a lease shall be optional, which would then give a lessee liberty to employ whatever lawyer he liked. The Chairman said so long an the Government made the leases secure for tie Board to sue on, lie would not mind if registration cost tenants nothing, but the Board had to looi after its own interests.
