Capetown, May 23. The Chamber of Mines at Johannesburg discussed the native labour question. Sir Percy Fitzpatriek, the president, said if the Government encroached on the present labour supply of the mines for purposes of public works, the importation of cheap coloured labour from somewhere would become necessary. It was unanimously resolved to recommend the Government to import indentured coolies for the construction of railways.
