ACTIVE OCTOGENARIANS
Men and Women points out that Baron Brampton is as devoted to the law as ever, and travels much. Sir William Howard Russell keeps a watchful eye on his wellknown paper, the Army and Navy Gazette; while Lord Strathcona has at his command a perfectly inexhaustible reserve of strength. Sir Henry Thompson still paints c little, while Mr. Watts paints a very great deal. Nor is Mr. Frith's brush idle. Then, down at Rochester, within' the shadow of the cathedral, you will find the tall and stately white-haired dean surrounded by his be"loved rose trees, which he cultivates assiduously, as light-hearted and as full of fun as a boy. Busy septuagenarians are plentiful. Lord Kelvin, although he will soon be seventynine, is the same genius in a hurry that he always was. Other septuagenarians are Sir William Huggins, who passes most of the night in his private suburban observatory in the company of his wite. also an astronomer; Sir William Hat-court; M.P., who, it is difficult to believe, will shortly be seventy-six; Dr. Cummings. the busy "Principal of the Guildhall School of Music, who does not lock a day over fifty ; Earl Roberts, who is seventy; Mr. Holman Hunt, who spends laborious days in his studio at Fulham, wholly wrapped up in his art : and Lord Lister, the discoverer of antiseptic treatment.
