A MAYOR'S SALARY.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Dunedin, Thursday. At the meeting of the City Council a salary of £400 was voted to the Mayor. Some discussion took place on the case of Mr. H. J. Walter, a former Mayor. When, on his action, the lata Mr. H. S. Pish was ousted from the Mayoral chair as oeing interested in a sub-contract, the Council refused to vote Mr. Walter the usual salary. As Mr. Walter is now in indifferent health and circumstances, ha. asked for consideration of his claim to the remuneration he was then deprived of. The Finance Committee had no recommendation to make, but the matter was refererd back to the committee for further consideration as to the legal position.
