FIFTH photographic Competition. // \ i £24 in Prizes. \ / The Proprietors of the Auckland Weekly News have much pleasure in announcing their Fifth Photographic Prize Competition. They recognise that these competitions are of great assistance to photography throughout the country, finding publication for artistic material, and stimulating friendly rivalry among amateurs. They also provide a training in tue production of journalistic photographs, of which ' the Weekly News alone uses some thousands annually. The competition will remain open until May 30 next. The following are the various classes and the amounts of prizes offered: — 1 A NEW ZEALAND LAND OR SEA 5. A NEW ZEALAND COMIC STUDY. SCAPE, (with or without figure). First First prize, £3. second prize, £1. prize, £3; second prize, £1. <■ 2. NEW ZEALAND FIGURE STUDY I 6. BEST GENERAL COLLECTION OF (European or Maori). First prize, £3; j NEW ZEALAND PHOTOGRAPHS. First I under this class should also be entered in prize, £3; second prize, £1. I the various classes previously specified. 1 CONDITIONS. No photograph previously published will be allowed to compete. The negatives must in all cases be the work of the competitor. Competitors should remember that small views, although allowed to compete, are not so suitable for reproduction as large ones. In awarding the prizes, the suitability of the photograph for reproduction will be taken into consideration. Bromide prints are not so suitable for reproduction as those on the ordinary p.o.p. paper. The Proprietors will have the right to reproduce any photographs sent in for competition. Good typical pictures of general interest are preferable to those of merely local interest. In sending in photographs, prints should be sent flat if possible. Particulars should be written on the back of the print in pencil, without in any way damaging it. All photographs must be addressed to the " Competition Editor" of the Auckland Weekly News, and the class for which it is entered should be clearly marked both on the back of the photograph as well as on the outside of the packet.
