AMUSING EVIDENCE IN A BREACH
OF PROMISE SUIT. Amusing evidence was given lately at Ghv morgan Assizes in an action brought by Mrs. Hannah Evans, a widow, aged fortyfive, of Pontardulais, against Mr. Edward Thomas, a widower, fifty-eight years of age, also of Pdhtardulais, for £1000 damages for breach of promise. The plaintiff alleged that the acquaintance was commenced in the havfield. , The defendant, in his evidence, described his meetings with the plaintiff. On one occasion she came up and said :' " Edward Thomas, how long have you buried your wife?" On his replying that it was nearly a year ago, Mrs. Evans asked: "I suppose you U have another wife again?" " I don't know, replied the witness. " Better look for a nice widow in business to go about auctions, rejoined the plaintiff, adding, "I have * cart and pony. ~ After detailing Mrs. Evans' visits to mm, and the excuses she made for those visits, the witness said that at last she said, Win you marry me a week to-morrow, Edward Thomas?" v-, " I will never marry you, Hannah Evans, he answered. " , , , „ "Well, I will put vou in trouble before Monday," she said, and he retorted, ion can go now and do what you like. • A remarkable feature of'the case was tr • evidence of Mr. Gun-in, handwriting expert, who said that the letters purported » be written by the defendant to the plan"™ were in the handwriting of ?
