HOCKEY.
A very enthusiastic meeting of those interested in the formation of a hockey club in Remucra was held in the vicarage schoolroom during the week. Mr. Charles Ran son was voted to the chair. It was decided to form a club, to be called the United Hookey Club." The following officers were then elected: — President, Mi. Charles Ranson; presidents, the R-cv. W. Beatty and
Messrs. T. Buddie, W. Callender, J. H. M. Carpenter, B. Dennis O'Rorke, and G. N. Pierco; captain, Mr. R. W. Barry; hon. secretary, Mr. J. R. Callender; hon. treasurer, Mr. Graham Reid: committee, Messrs. H. Morpeth, G. Osborne, H. Ranson, and D. Smith. The committee have drawn up rules to bo presented at a general meeting of the club next Friday night, and have also arranged for the lease of part of the Dilworth Estate, next to the Remuera railway station, as a playing ground. There are now 35 playing members, so that there will be no difficulty in putting at least two teams in the field.
A well-attended meeting of the University Hockey Club was held on Tuesday evening last, and, judging by appearances, the 'Varsity should put a strong team in the field. As at present there are nearly 30 playing members enrolled, while many others are expected to join when play begins. The committee are making arrangements to obtain a suitable field, and hope to make a start with the game shortly.
