LACROSSE.
■Members and intending members of the various lacrosse clubs should put in an appearance at the Domain this afternoon and get in some useful and necessary practice,_ in view of an early start with the championship matches. At the annual general meeting of the I cnsonby Club, held last Monday evoi.ing, it was announced that the club would bo represented by at least one team in the opening tournament, and the subsequent championship matches. As it is understood that lacrosse will shoiti'y lie established in the Taranaki district — mainly through the effort* of Messrs. Tizard Brothers—no doubt the Now Zealand Managing Council will give all possible assistance to get the game on a sound footing. Later on in the season a representative Auckland team may be sent to the 41 butter country." The newly-appointed captain of the City Club (Mr. H. Sach) should, with his thorough knowledge of the game, do much to transform this body of willing players into a really strong combination. _ There is still considerable doubt as to the council's prospect of success in its endeavour to secure a suitable ground at Devonport. One thing is pretty certain, and it is that in the event of there being no ground at the Shore there will be no teams from that suburb in this season's competitions. Lacroase in Australia is going ahead this season with renewed vigour. In Sydney the district or electorate scheme has been established, and it is thus early predicted that the allotment of players to the several districts is going to prove an immense benefit to the game. Rule 11, section 11. of the Australian laws might with advantage be copied by the local association. It reads as follows: —'"When the ball is being ' faced off' no one shall be allowed to stand closer than five yards from, nor interfere with, the players until the ball is out of their crosses.'
