The ordinary meeting of the Trades and Labour Council was held last night, when a large amount of routine business was gone through. It was decided to request the Government to suspend Mr. S. Brown from the Court of Arbitration during the hearing of the breach of award in the furniture trade dispute, in view of certain letters appearing in the daily press in which Mr. Brown ex° pressed certain views regarding the award of the Court. The Council expressed its dissatisfaction with the candidates in the field for the Mayorality of the city of Auckland, and decided to endeavour to induce someone more acceptable to the workers to put himself forward as a candidate. A resolution was carried urging the Government to increase the tax on absentee landlords, as promised by tho Premier in his speech at Gore.
