EASTER HOLIDAYS.

Tho Auckland Racing Club will hold it?) autumn meeting at El'erslie on Saturday next (April 11), Easter Monday, and the day following. Special trains will be run to the course as usual, The principal events on the. first day. will bo the Easter Handicap and the Great Northern Champagne Stakes. There will be Easter excursions to Rotorua, Wairakei, and Taupo. A special train will leave Auckland for Rotorua at ten o'clock to-night, and will leave Rotorua on tno return journey at twenty minutes past seven p.m. on Easter Monday, arriving in Auckland at three o'clock on the following morning. Reduced coach and launch fare! are announced by Cook's agencv, and these will be issued in conjunction with the railway excursions from to-day until Easter Monday, and will be available for return until May 12. Steamer excursions to Waiwera will be run by the McGregor Steamship Company, under arrangement with the AVaiwera Hotel Com, pany. Steamers will leave to-day, Friday and .Saturday all excursionists returning on lytesday by the s.s. Claymore. The Coastal Steamship Comoanv announce a : special time-table to Waiwera, Orewa, and Warlovoria steamers leaving to-dav, Saturday, and Monday. The New Zealand University carnival will be held on Saturday, Easter Monday, and luesday. On Saturday tennis championship matches will be played on the Eden and Epsom lawns between representatives from Wellington, Christehurch, Dunedin, and Auckland. A debating- contest for a championship shield will be held in the evening. An athletic tournament will bo held on the Auckland Cricket Ground on Easter Monday, and the tennis finals will be played off on Tuesday. A picnic in honour of the Southern representatives will be held at uotutapu on Tuesday. The Auckland Bowling Association will hold a tournament on the Auckland green on Good Friday. Saturday, Easter Monday, and Tuesday. Play will be commenced at nine o'clock each day. The trophies and prizes will be presented at a smoke concert, to be held in the Federal social hall on Tuesday evening. The Auckland Garrison volunteer corps will go into a camp of instruction at Castor Oil Bay, Takapuna, this evening. The infantry corps will remain under canvas for four Jays and the mounted corns for a week.

The Rotorua athletic sports will be held on Easter Monday. Entries for the principal events will close this evening. Those desirous of attending the sports will be ablo to take advantage of tho reduced railway fares. The Auckland carters' annual oicnic and sports will be held at Pine Island on Good Friday. Boats will leave at half-past nine a.m. and one p.m. The Waitemata Boating Club will hold its annual picnic and aquatic snorts at Kohimarama or Drunken Bay, "Motutapu, on Saturday. Boats leave at ten a.m. and aquarter past one p.m. The Railway Department have arranged special time-tables over the various lines, particulars of which may b» obtained from the advertisements and posters. The Devonport Ferry Company announce ■excursions to the various popular ' picnic spots for Good Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, there being a choice of six localities for the last-named day. Tho Northern Steamship Company announce excursion fares to the Thames and Pa proa during the holidays. Saloon tickets will bo issued at 10s return, and steerage to Thames only 7s 6d return. Tickets will be available for one month, and will be issued between the Bth and 13th inst., both davs inclusive.

The Newmarket Fishing Club leave on an by the p.s. Awarua on Good Friday, leaving the ferry tee at nine- a.m. Picnickers will be landed at Hook's Bay, Waihelce, the steamer proceeding to tha fishing ground's in the vicinity, and leaving the bay again at half-past four p.m. Athletic sports will bo held at Papakura on Easter Monday. A special train, stopping whore required, leaves Auckland at aquarter uast nine a.m., returning at six n.m. The Thames United Foresters' fete will ho hold on Easter Monday. The p.s. Waka•terc will run an excursion, leaving Auckland at a-quarter to throe p.m. on Sunday. The Auckland Provincial Christian Endeavour Union will hold their half-yearly convention on Good Friday. There will be a monster camp meeting at Motutapu during the clay, and in connection therewith a steamer will leave and return at convenient hours.. In the evening a united gathering will bo hold in the Tabernacle, commencing at half-past seven p.m. The Northern Steamship Company will run excursions to Cowes Bay, Waiheke, by the Terranora. and to Waiwera and Mahurangi Heads bv the Clansman, on Easter Monday. The Helping Hand Mission intend holding their usual open-air Easter service in the Western Park to-morrow afternoon. The Bev. "W. S. Potter. Mr. T. Clark, and others will speak. The Mission Band will ho present, and will play several anthems and Easter hymns. A collection will he taken nn during the afternoon in aid of Sister Kenneth's benevolent fund. The Mission have chartered the s.s. Kapanui for Easter Monday, and will run an excursion to tho East Tamaki.
