HEAVY BAINS IN CANTERBURY.
GREAT DAMAGE. [BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] Cheistchurch, Wednesday. Heavy rains on the Akaroa Peninsula last week caused the loss of young cattle and did enormous damage. Seventeen head of cattle ■were lulled at O'Kain's Bay. The roads in various directions are blocked, and it will be some time before communication is restored. The effect on milking cattle has been very marked, the milk supply having fallen off to an unusual extent. During the flood in Little River fish seven pounds in, weight were found on some of the township roads. Some sheep were rushed out to sea by the force of wind and flood. '■■' : *
