Mr. Bruce exnressed the opinion that it was ridiculous to strike a rate which would be really £1000 higher than their _ actual requirements. It would mean that in the country districts thore would be less money to expend upon roads. Mr. Walters, while deploring the increase, supported the rate as a matter of necessity. On the motion of Mr. Bollard the recommendation was adopted. Infectious Diseases: The- Board wont into committee upon a special report from the honorary staff. Upon resuming a report in regard to infectious diseases was read by Dr. Collins,_ who stated that at a meeting hold on April 5 the honorary staff adopted a resolution deprecating the building of an infectious diseases hospital on the hospital grounds, owing to the fact that it was considered detrimental to the interests of the patients. Friendly Societies' Fees: Mr. Bollard gave notice to move, " That the resolution relative to the fees charged to friendly society members be rescinded." Medical Officer's Residence: The Finance Committee recommended that the chief medical officer be granted an increase of salary on condition that he resided within 300 yds of the hospital. Dr. Collins stated that the condition was one he could not comply with, no suitable house being available, and suggested that the Board, instead of giving him an increase, which he did not seek, should devote the sum to erecting a house in the hospital grounds suitable as a residence for the medical officers for many years to come. The suggestion was considered a good one, and the Finance Committee were directed to consider the question of carrying it into effect.
