ENTERTAINMENTS AND MEETINGS.

DIX'S GAIETY COMPANY. There was a crowded audience at the City Hall on Saturday evening", when Mr. Dix's Company presented an excellent vaudeville programme. A newcomer was Professor Schmidson, whoso musical act was received with much enthusiasm. His playing of five musical instruments at one time quite brought the house clown. Professor Schmidson should prove a good draw. The contributions of Miss Emmie Smith, Messrs. Frank Yorke, Arnoldi, Sherwin, and the rest of the company wore all received with applause, and Mr. Frank Graham was in excellent voice. The performance concluded with a very amusing after-piece. The City Hall will be closed to-night, but to-morrow evening it will be reopened, when Misses Ida Roslyn and Vera Kcarns and Messrs. J. Kearns and Charles Howard will make their reappearance for a short season. FITZGERALD BROTHERS' CIRCUS. There were largo attendances at Messrs. Fitzgerald Brothers' Circus on Saturday afternoon and evening, when a successful season was brought to a close. The entertainments provided were greatly appreciated on both occasions. • MR. P. R. DIX'S BENEFIT. This evening, at His Majesty's Theatre, Mr. P. R. Dix will be tendered a complimentary benefit by the citizens of Auckland. A number of leading local- musicians have given their services, including Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton Hodges (with Mrs. E. H. Queree as accompanist). Miss Lurline Rigby, Messrs. Fred W. Lloyd, Wilfred Manning, and A. A. Partridge; also the following members of Mr. Dix's own company, viz., Mr. Frank Graham (who will sing "The Moon Has Raised"), Miss Emmie Smith, Miss Ida Roslyn, Little "Vera Kearns, the Sisters Smith, Miss Bertoto, Arnoldi, and Mr. Alf. Sherwin. There will no doubt bo a very large attendance, as Mr. Dix is very popular in the city, and has consistently catered for the playgoing members of the community for many yp&i past. Mr. Dix will be present and say a Mf words of thanks. STABAT MATER. The production of " Stabat Mater" at His Majesty's Theatre on Good Friday evening is creating considerable interest. The favourite oratorio should be heard to great advantage. Madame Lilian Tree, tne principal soprano, and Mr., Frank Graham, the English tenor, will take the leading parts, and with them will be associated Miss Maud Tobias, the young New Zealand mezzosoprano (pupil of Madame Tree), and the we'l'-known baritone, Mr.. Rupert Mantell. In the earlier portion of the programme Madame Lilian Tree will sing Gounod s "Ave Maria," with violin obligate by Miss Doris Boult. Mr. * rank Graham will sing "If With All Your Hearts." Miss Tobias will sing. There is a Green Hill Far Away." Mr. Rupert Mantell will sing, "It is Enough." Miss Dons Boult will give a violin solo, and Mr. Wilfred Manning will sing "Thou Art Passing Hence " The large orchestra and chorus will be under the direction of Mr. Arthur Towsey. _ THEOSOPHY. Last evening Mr. F. M. Parr lectured to an excellent audience upon " Kharma and Destiny " Great interest was evinced in the lecture ' and the various points and arguments brought out by Mr. Parr were listened to with close attention. At the ciOse of the lecture a number of questions were asked and answered. During the evening, Mrs Hamilton Hodges, who has quite recovered from her late severe illness, sang in her usual artistic manner, " Hope in the Lord" (Mason) and "A Legend (Tsohaikowsky). __»_——
