FALSE PRETENCES.
[by TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Friday. Mary Shannon, alias Bock, Lang, Bennett, find Brunell, about 37 years "of age, who was at one time a State school teacher in- Victoria, pleaded guilty to-day to a charge of obtaining two sums of £25 and £10 from Ellen' Eelliam," wife of a cab proprietor. It ' was' stated that defendant represented to Mrs. Eelliam {hat' she was about to 'purchase a poultry farm' at , Mount Rosldll,' Aflc):lancl, aid' could secure an adjoining' property for complainant at a very low" rate. Mrs. '' Pelham' thereupon advanced £25 as a first Instalment' of the purchase money, ' and" gave another £10 later on. ' Inquiries made 'subsequently showed that prisoner's story was a fabrication/ She was remanded for sentence to the Supreme 'Court. " She also admitted obtaining £15 by "fraud'" from "Ernest Little, at Christchurch. ' Sentence in this case was" deferred.
