AUCKLAND SHAREMARKET. The market was quiet yesterday. In investment lines New Zealand Insurances changed hands at 86s 6d and 87s, sellers closing at 88s, buyers 86s. Other stocks had fair demand at recent rates. In mining lines Tairua Broken Hills sold at- 7s Bd, late sellers asking Bs. Bunker's Hills were done at 4s 6d. Waihis were offered at £510s, without buyers. Waihi Grand Junctions at 23s 6d, had buyers at 21s 6d. In other lines late prices ruled. TAIRUA BROKEN HILLS G.M. CO. £2012 FROM 600 TONS. TOTAL TO DATE, £29,448 15s 3d. The Tairua Broken Hills Gold Mining Company during the month of February crushed and treated 600 tons of ore for a return of bullion valued at £2012. This gives average of just over £3 7s per ton. RESOLUTION BY THE BOROUGH COUNCIL. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Thursday. At a meeting of the Borough Council this evening the following resolution was carried, on the motion of the Mayor (Mr. Trembath), seconded by Mr. Loughlin, "That the Government be impressed with the desirability of acquiring the whole of the Thames Hauraki properties, in order to enable any company willing to work the surrounding properties the opportunity of so doing, the Government giving any such company the right to utilise and work the machinery, subject to the properties being kept in good order and condition." With respect to the Council contributing to the support of the Thames Drainage Board and to the Goldfields Improvement Committee's proposals for testing the deep levels by boring, it was decided that consideration of both matters should stand over, the former until the end of the financial year and the latter until further information is forthcoming in regard to the scheme for boring. During the month of February, the Thames banks purchased gold a*, follows : Bank of New Zealand: Thames County, 1950z lldwt; Piako County, 1740z 2dwfc; Tauranga County, 40oz 6dwt; Thames Borough, 3230z 4dwt: total, 6970z 3dwt. Bank of New South Wales: Thames County, 7420z 14dwt; Thames Borough, 140oz Idwt: total, 882oz 15dwt. RANGATIRA CLAIM (NEW FIND). [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Coeomandel, Thureday. Since the title to this claim has been granted, all hands have been engaged erecting huts and other necessary work, which was required before mining could be commenced. This work is now completed, and four men have been put to trench across the outcrop. It is anticipated that in a short time the reef which shed the rich specimens will be to hand.

WAIOTAHI G.M. CO. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Thursday. The Waiotahi Gold Mining Company's clean-up for February took place to-day. After crushing 65 tons of ore the result was 1250z of retorted gold, valued approximately at £344. TE PUKE AND HONE SPECIAL CLAIMS. Tattranga, Thursday. At the Warden's Court to-day, on the application of Mr. J. A. Clark, mining agent, the special claim? Te Puke and Hone, of 100 acres each were recommended for granting by the Hon. the Minister for Mines. They adjoin the Mount Te Puke mine on the west, and have good prospects before them. They are taken up by Mr. Wynyard, solicitor, Auckland, who is acting for a strong financial syndicate, and funds are already subscribed for prospecting and developing the properties.
