The Canterbury members of Parliament have drawn up a combined report urging upjon the Government the necessity for their immediately taking such steps as will lead tc} closer settlement of the land in this province. The report points out that in the land taken up by fresh settlers the increase in thejarea of the holdings in Auckland amounted to 507 434 acres; in Taranaki, 219,127; acres ; and Wellington, 422,489 acres; white in Canterbury for five years it showed anincreased TO of only 7416 acres.
