FRANKLIN AGRICULTURAL SHOW.
The Franklin Agricultural Show at Puke- ; koho was continued yesterday. The weather was fine, and there was a large gathering on the ground. The driving and jumping competitions which were uncompleted when the train left for town were attracting a great deal of interest. One of the features of the show ground and one which appealed to the farmers and dairymen of the district was a steaming apparatus of 20 gallons capacity, a quantity of potatoes in a barrel being cooked by means of a steam pipe inserted, in the bottom of the barrel. The potatoes were cooked fit for table use; in fact, a few dishes' wore placed on the luncheon table on the grounds. -The principle of the boiler frame is that the heat is forced twice -round the boiler by means of a firebox and a baffle plate, placed half-way up the boiler, thereby >, using up all the heat before it can escape into: the flue. Another feature was the boiling of water by the steam pipe,- so that a dairyman would have no trouble in getting plenty.; of hot water to cleanse milkcans, and also plenty of steam to finish them with. Altogether, for simplicity and economy - andi saving , of time and trouble, cheapness, etc.) the apparatus would be hard to beat, and there should; be a very .-! ready sale for it, as -it is to be manufactured in Auckland,' Mr. H. W. .de Baugh being the inventor. \ . ■'
