KAURI GUM MARKET.

The following are our quotations of kauri gum for the week ending March 2, 1903: —White gum: Poor ordinary, £42 and upwards fair ordinary, £62 and upwards; bold, three-quarter scraped (free from nuts), £85 • , and : upwards; East Coast (wood quality), £90 and upwards; rescraped. £130 and upwards. Black gum. Nuts, c ; £20 and upwards; medium (free from sugar), £26 and upwards; good, £60 and upwards. Remarks on market: Arrivals for the month of February, 855 tons. Much of the gum now arriving is of very poor quality, and does not yield satisfactory results, either to buyer or seller,'but good lots sell .well.

The Premier to-day received London cable advices that Australian three per cents, were 90. This is probably the .lowest figure that. will be reached. Prices were firm, -showing a slight advance on last week's quotations Steers brought from £6 i2s 6dto £10; heifers, £5 15s; two extra quality, £10 ,10s and £10 12s 6d; cows, £5 10s to £8; beef, 27s to 30s per 1001b. • ' • Calves: The 25 calves yarded brought 16s to £3 2s, according to size and quality. . Dairy Cattle: Very limited supply. Pr>..-es ranged from £4 10s to £9 ss. Fat Sheep: The yarding of very fat sh°ep was smaller than usual, consisting mainly of ewes of fair quality. Freezing wethers and ewes were not plentiful, and there was not the usual quanity of poOr-conclitioned ewes. Though freezing buyers did hot. operate to any large extent, the bidding was fairly brisk. All classes of wethers sold at last week's rates, best ewes being a trifle firmer. . The range of prices was: Wethers, 15s 3d to IBS 6d; freezing ewes, lis t6d ..to ; 14s 6d; best butchers' ewes, 13s to 16s 7d; others, 9s to 12s 6d; merino wethers, 103 6d. ...... ~_. „ Fat Lambs: The yarding: comprised 1656, the quality being good. Butchers competed keenly for all but the heaviest sorts. Prices were firm at last week's , rates. They met rather a better demand than the previous week, all sorts selling well.
