CARTOONS AND PORTRAITS.

The chief feature of the Auckland W ef.kly News (now issued) is a series of photographs by the News' special photographer of the jubilee celebrations at Waipu. The function, which is an event of historical interest to New Zealanders, took the form of a gathering of the clans, and hundreds of the original settlers and their descendants foregathered at the Nova, Scotian settlement to take part in celebrating the important occasion. Groups of the survivors of the original settlers and their descendants will be of very wide interest, and will be treasured as souvenirs of the great reunion, while other views at the gathering, comprising a panoramic view of the interior of the dining tent, a group of Highland pipers, an old-time industry, and a glimpse of Waipu Wharf, serve to convey an idea of the magnitude of the crowd assembled, and some of the main incidents during the day. This week's issue of the News will also be valuable as a literary record of the jubilee. A complete description is given of the function, together with many interesting items connected with the early settlement and life in Waipu. Scenes at the Oddfellows' Premier picnic, at Motutapu, illustrate fully the pleasant annual reunion of the Auckland District Oddfellows, and include views of the passengers landing at the wharf. Home Bay beach, during the afternoon, together with numerous snapshots of some of the most interesting events during the day.

The band contest at Masterton is illustrated by a series of photographs, including the Wellington Garrison Band, winners of the championship and the Bessou Shield. The Masterton Municipal Band, and an excellent picture of the massed bauds on garden party day, at Park Oval, Masterton.

Scenes in the Society and Friendly Islands include typical pictures of some of the lowlying islands in the Taumotu Archipelago, the scene of the recent great tidal wave.

Numerous other groups, views, and portraits, including some charming New Zealand bush scenes, together with the usual amount of high-class letterpress, contribute to a most attractive number, and 3, publication, which for general public interest stands unrivalled in the colonies.

The Auckland Weekly News is now issued, and many be obtained from all agents and runners.
