HAFTON Estate, which was purchased from Mr. Clark about this time last year by Messrs, . Savage and Brown, has again changed hand*, Mr. Savage having sold to Mr. Cole. I under* stand that Mr. Brown is to remain, and'will have an interest in the property. Although Mr. Savage has only been a short time in' the district, he will be missed. He has taken ■'■'- an active interest in all that pertains to th« \V adrancement of the district— especially.!'-.' in its social aspect*. • J
HAMILTON. A MEETING of those desirous of forming * lodge of Oddfellows, M.U., was held on Wednesday evening. Brother Stapleton, in conjunction with Brothers Quinn and Hard, ley, explained the working of a lodge. It was agreed to found a lodge, and a committer was appointed to canvass for members and report at a meeting, to be held on 25th tart., when it is expected that some of the district officers will be present. The Hamilton Band gave a moonlight concert in the hospital grounds on Wednesday evening. The night was beautiful, and a larg« concourse of townspeople assembled. -Dr. Douglas, at the conclusion of the performance thanked the band on behalf of the patients. A sitting of the Magistrate's Court took place on Wednesday. Mr, H. W. Korthcroft, S.M., presided. 'Several debt cases wart dealt with, and judgment given in default, with costs. The deferred case, Casey v. Vaughan, a claim of £50 due to claimant on balance of a series of transactions, was also dealt with, an i judgment given for plaintiff for £50, the ..mount claimed, and costs, St Ss. Mr. Campbell, of Auckland, appeared fov the plaintiff, and Mr. Swarbrick, of Hamilton, for the defendant.
PIRONGIA. THE annual picnic took place on Saturday last. Compared with former occasions, th« attendance was small. As usual. Mrs. Berry. Mrs. Chappel, Miss Anbin, and Miss Finch, did all in their power to give enjoyment to the children, and scored a success. The sports, which were a decided success, were under the direction of Mr. Prince and Mr. E. H. Aubin. Refreshments were served in the hall, and, as usual, were plentiful and choice.
TE AWAMUTU. A MEETING of those desirous of resuscitating the Te Awamutu Tennis Club was held on Saturday. About 20 ladies and gentlemen attended. It was decided to revive the old club, and put the courts in order at once. The following officers were appointed:— Mr. F. W. Lang, M.H.R.; vice-presidents, Messrs. Muir. W. Tavlor, and J. Cotterill; committee. Messrs. C. Bowden, Clerv. Gifford, Forde. and the Rev. Mr. Entrican; lion, sec and treasurer. Mr. W. N. von Stunner.
