WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.

THE above Council met at Onaupo on Tuesday. Present: Messrs. J. Fisher (chairman), J. J. Byburn, S. Steele, F. J. Vickers, H. J. Bell, and Ed. Allen.

Cambridge Bridge: Mr. A. Hunter reported that this bridge had been completed in a satisfactory manner. He stated that although the bridge is now considerably strengthened he would advise that traction engines bo prohibited -from using it. Mr. Hunter suggested that the restrictions re the rate of travelling should be strictly enforced, and also that some of the rods be tightened up. This work was left in the hands of the supervisor of works.

Whatawhata Swamp Road: The Chief Inspector of Roads notified that £40 was authorised for expenditure. The supervisor was instructed to pay up to 8 per cent, on the work at the new drain, and to arrange with Mr. Mahinney to drain the 14 chains swamp. Noxious Weeds: Mr. P. James, Ngaruawahia, wrote complaining of the growth of noxious weeds upon lands adjoining his. This matter was referred to the Stock Department.

Gravel Pit: A letter was received from Mr. 0. A. Hurd-Wood, complaining of the delay in the completion of the transfer of a gravel pit from himself to the Council. The clerk was requested to inform him that the matter would be settled within a month.

Fence on Road: Mr. B. Garland, Cambridge, received permission to erect a temporary fence on portion of Shakesperestreet.

Limestone An offer was received from Messrs. J. Wilson and Co. to supply 100 cubic yards of metal, delivered in trucks at the To Kuiti lime works, at 5s per yard, provided some latitude was allowed to arrange for breaking. The offer was accepted.

Repairs: Miss Miller wrote requesting that repairs be made to the road leading from the old hotel to her residence, Pirongia. The matter was left in the supervisor's hands.

Fruit Stall: A request was received from Mr. L. Castleton, Hamilton, for permission to erect a small shed on the by-road near Frankton for the sale of fruit, etc. It was decided to reply that the Council had no jurisdiction in the matter.

Supervisor's Report: The first portion of the report dealt with matters of repairs that had lately 'been effected. Messrs. J. Wilson and Co. had contracted to supply 100 cubic yards of broken limestone. Natives had completed a contract for scouring dranib on the Whatawhata Swamp Eoad, and had signed the contract for work of cutting the new drain, with which good progress was being made. The work recently ordered on the Whatawhata-Tuhikaramea Road, near Sutton's, had been done. On going over the road he found the newly-formed water-tables partially filled-in in three places to make crossings to gateways. He asked the Council to express an opinion as to whether this should be allowed. Stone Crusher: The supervisor. was instructed to pay a visit of inspection to Mr. Trubshaw's stone crusher, and report thereon to the Council. Removal of Furze: Mr. Graham was granted an extension of time in which to clear furze from his frontage, and the Council requested him to use all diligence in erecting his fence. Mystery Creek: The supervisor was instructed to have the necessary repairs effected at Mystery Creek, and to have the obstructions in the water-tables, referred to in the report, attended to. Drainpipes: Messrs. W. Souter and Co. wrote requesting that a set of pipes be inserted in the footpath near their store. Granted, on condition that applicants pay half the cost. Cowley's Gully: The supervisor was instructed to take what steps he may consider necessary to repair the water-tables in this gully, which were washed out by the late rains. Miscellaneous Works: The following additional works were authorised:—Sanding on the Pirongia (low) Eoad, gravelling on the Ohnupo-llamilton Road, and formation and sanding on the Pateraugi-Pirongia Road.
