BIBLE-READING IN SCHOOLS. [BY TELEGEAni.— ASSOCIATION.]

Dunedin, Thursday. At the Congregational Conference to-day the Bible reading and teaching in schools question was shelved ou a motion by Mr. Fowlds, "That the previous question be put," being affirmed. Several members attempted unsuccessfully to reopen the question. The chairman disallowed further reference to the subject, but subsequently said he would like to reconsider the position. The Congregational Union Committee report in favour of continuing the Outlook as the organ of their church, subject to certain conditions, the chief of which is that there should be inserted in the first column a note stating that the editor-in-chief is not responsible for Congregational views, and that articles when requested be signed by the writer. The committee also suggested that Wellington be the seat of the Congregational editor, and that Mr. J. R. Glasson act as editor. , Mr. W. H. Lyon, treasurer of the union, presented the finance report, which showed : —Sites fund capital account, £638 4s 6d; revenue account, £73 19s 7d ; loans current, £1400. The question of onion of the churches was considered. The Rev. Saunders moved, " That this council records the profound pleasure it feels on receiving the committee appointed by the general assembly to seek union with the Congregational and Methodist Churches, expresses its very sincere appreciation of the truly Christian spirit that has led to the overture being made, and heartily pledges itself to the immediate appointment of a committee to meet and co-operate with the Presbyterian Committee, and with the Methodist Committee should it be hereafter set up." The motion was carried unanimously.
