The' Rev. J. M. Davidson, late pastor oi the Mataura Presbyterian charge, was last week presented by the parishioners -with a purse of sovereign? as a mark of the esteem in which he is held by his old congregation. ; Mr. and Mrs. Henry, who are leaving 'JBalclutha :, to , take up their ' residence in . He is expected to arrive by the Sydney steamer on the 28th inst. Mr. R. Whittingham, brewer, of Gore, Otago, has left for a trip to the Old Country, for the purpose of exploiting a patent airship of his own invention, on which he ■has been_engaged for several years. Prior to leaving he was entertained and presented with a, purse of sovereigns by the , business men of Gore. The vestry of St. Peter's Church, Hamil- ',;"' ton, have requested Archdeacon Calder to leave the Rev. D. C. Bates in charge of the parish until a permanent appointment ■'■ is '-made. This action is due to a very iv < numerously-signed testimonial presented to : the rev. gentleman when he was expected to give up charge., - The secretary of the Thames School of 4 Mines received a telegram from the Hon. J. ' 4 McGowan yesterday, announcing that J. . H. Adams, a student of the school, and son ■of Mr. James Adams, headmaster of the f0 :: Thames High School, had been successful in passing the examination fox the university scholarship. ;, The scholarship entitles , the holder to free tuition at the Otago Uni- <- ' i versity and £50 per annum for three years.
