RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION.
[BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION'.] Wellington, Wednesday. In- the course of his speech at the opening of the Waipara-Scargill railway, on Tuesday, the Minister for Public Works stated that the following mileages of railway had been completed since March 31 last: —Wai-para-Scargill, 15 miles; Poro-o-tarao-Onga-rue, 14-i miles ; Gisborne-Kaiteratehi, °13 miles; Stratford-Toko, 6 miles; Mangao-noho-Mang-aweka, 10 miles; BlenheimSeddon, 15£ miles. This represents "a total of 74 miles. So far as the MangaonohoMangaweka section is concerned, the rails have been laid for another 10 miles further, but the ballasting of this portion of the line has not been completed.
