SUICIDES.
Charles Hxckson, a middle-aged man, licensee of the Waiau Hotel, committee! sui-< cide at the. Al Hotel, Christchurch, on Sepetmber 2by cuttug his throat. The re-' son which* led him to commit the deed i* unknown. A profound sensation was caused at Bargavilfe on Sept. 3. when it became known that Mr, Arthur Marriner, ledger-keeper at the Dargaville branch of the National Bank of New Zealand, hr.d committed suicide in the bank on the 2nd of September, by blowing his brains out with a revolver. Ho apparently entered the front, door of the bank, and in the dark went to the tack of the counter, where a revolver is kept, and shot himself in the right side of the head, the bullet passing through ths skui! to within an inch of the other side. An inquest; was held at the Northern Wairon Hotel, on September 3, when a verdict of suicide during temporary insanity was returned. Marriner, who was 21 years of age, was a very popular voung man, and no reason can be attributed" for his dreadful act, no evidence pointing to a cause having been given at the inquest.
