ESSEX BEFORE THE COURT. !AT the Police Court yesterday forenoon, before Mr. H. W. Brabant, S.M., William Henry Essex (40). insurance agent, who was arrested in Melbourne on warrant, and who arrived by s.s. Waikare on Sunday evening, in custody of Detective McMabon, was. charged that on or about October 27. 1900, at Waikino, he did break and enter thewarehouse of the Waihi Gold Mining Company.. Limited, and steal certain gold-bearing material to wit, cyanide gold slimes and Tino shavings, the property of tho said \\ al ln Gold Mining Company, Limited. Mr. Martin appeared for the accused. Chief-Detective Grace applied for a remand for a week. Air. Martin offered no objection. He asked lor bail, and said the accused was arrested in Melbourne, and admitted to bail by the police magistrate there, and had duly surrendered himself. Chief-Detective Grace offered no objection, and a remand was granted till the 15th inst., bail being allowed accused in his own recognisance of £100, and in two sureties of £50 each. Accused was subsequently released on bail, bis bond-men heinv, Alfred John Woodley, steward of the Working Men's Club and John Low.-, insurance agent. _„_____„_— THE WORK GOES ON.
