VOLCANIC ERUPTION IN ST. VINCENT.
LA SOUFRIERE AGAIN ACTIVE. THE CABLE BROKEN. B<- - Telegraph.— Association.— New York, September 7. A terrific eruption of La Soufriere occurred on the evening of the 3rd inst. Internal rumblings and clouds of steam followed throughout the nightGeorgetown and Chateau Belair have been evacuated. The destruction. the Carib country is complete. The volcano was still in eruption on the sth, The Vincent-Si. Lucia cable is broken. The cruiser Tribune has been ordered to St. Vincent. (Receive'.! September 9, 0.32 a.m.) London, September 8. A Renter message states that the eruption of Soufriere was accompanied by darkness and loud and rapid detonations, with a continuous terrible roar and incessant forked lightning, balls of fire bursting in meteor-Like showers. A heavy fall of sand destroyed a number of arrowroot plantations. There were no fatalities.
