-? (fkom OUR own CORRESPONDENTS.] ■};.;;■'■■. THAMES. THE 31st annual, meeting of the Thames Land, Building, and Investment ; Society (permanent) was held on Tuesday evening, Air. Jas. Renshaw presiding. The report presented stated that the year had been a fairly successful, one. Business at Thames had been quiet 'and- there had been few calls for the help of the society, but at Paeroa, To Aroha, and Waihi the openings bad been better,■> and , an increased business had been done. . The turnover and earnings were rather larger than for seme years pa3t, but the committee felt compelled for the present to refuse taking in any fresh subscribers. The mortgages held by the society numbered 144 and represented, with accrued < interest, a total value of £16,587 Is 3d. The total receipts for the year amounted to £8962 6s 13d, whilst the net earnings, after deducting working expenses and including the balance brought forward from last year, amounted to £1134 Is Id. From this sum 6} per, cent, per annum has been added monthly to investors' accounts, which absorbed £857 Is, and £50 added to-the reserve, fund. A well merited bonus of £15 has been voted to the secretary (Mr. Samuel ,T. Whitehouse). and a dividend of • 13 per cent, will be paid, this making a total of 7£ per cent, clear to investors, and leaving £41 12s balance to carry forward. Both the report and balance-sheet were adopted, and the interest and dividend willbe payable on Wednesday. •';Messrs. Root. Hudson and John.Knox Lamb were elected members of the committee. , ■:.' ...
TE AWAMUTTJ. AT the usual monthly. meeting of the Town Board all the members were present.' : The chairman of the Library Committee applied for payment of the grant towards the new library building. This was agreed to.: . In consequence of a comnlaint by Mr. Rogers as to the bad state of Herbert-street. Messrs. Gibson and : North were , authorised to get any work done which they may deem necessary. Mr. Collins wrote requesting the Board to take the necessary steps to have the public cemetery opened, as the St. John's Anglican cemetery was filling. : The matter was left in the hands of the chairman.
