CHARGES AGAINST BOOKMAKERS.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —KRESS ASSOCIATION.] Ciiristchukch, Tuesday. Oases of trespass against bookmakers in connection with the Grand National Meeting were jonsidcred before justices at the Magistrate's Court to-day. v The first series of charges was that they trespassed on the grounds of the Agricultural, and Pastoral Association, standing on the association side of the fence to bet with people over the fence on the grounds of the Metropolitan Trotting Club, which adjoin. In almost all the cases there were convictions on these charges, the accused being fined 40s and costs. A number were also fined for remaining oil the trotting club's grounds when,warned off. About 40 charges had been laid against bookmakers for breaches of the Gaming and Lotteries Act. It was alleged that they had stands on the course, on which they placed their coats while bettine. and it will bo argued for the prosecution that these stands conic within the meaning of a " public place" mentioned in. that Act.
