THE TAVIUNI. ' ■ . . The Union Company's steamer Taviuni. •Captain George Lobb, arrived from Fiji at. '4 a m. yesterday, and anchored m the stream for medical inspection, which was earned out by Dr. E. W. Shaman, the port health officer", shortly after 7 a.m.. and the steamer being admitted "to pratique was bertuea at Quay-street Jetty No. 2 to discharge her cargo of fruit, etc. The steamer left Auckland at 2.15 p.m. on August 13. and arrived at Suva at midnight on the 17th, having experienced strong head winds and heavy seas throughout the passage. Loaded and discharged cargo through the group, and finally'left Suva for Auckland on Thursday last. Experienced strong east-south-east winds and heavy head seas until the 25rd; thence moderate east south-east winds to arrival. The Taviuni proceeded on to Wellington yesterday afternoon, and on discharge at that port will be taken up on the patent slip for general overhaul.

THE OMAPERE. The Union Company's steamer Omapere, Captain A. D. Chrisp, arrived from Westport. Wellington, and East Coast ports yesterday morning with a cargo of coal. etc. Sir. w illiams. the purser, reports that the steamer left. Wellincton on the 19th inst.. and called at Napier, Gisborne, and the usual ports on the coast, amAing at 10 a.m. yesterday. Fine weather prevailed to the East Cape; thence strong north-west winds and heavy seas to arrival. Owing to the rough weather, the steamer was delayed at Hick's Bay for 24 hours. The Omapere leaves for East Coast ports and Wellington at 2 p.m..to-morrow.

THE WAKANUI. The New Zealand Shipping Company's stea- > mer Wakanui arrived from London, Capetown, and Hobart yesterday afternoon, and anchored at the powder ground. Owing to there bavins been two eases of smallpox on board during the voyage no communication with the steamer wa3 permitted, only Dr. Makgill. district health officer, and Dr. E. W. Sharman. port health officer, going on board. After medical inspection, there having been no farther sickness on hoard, the health authorities returned to the shore, and reported to the authorities at "Wellington on the matter, and a. reply as to what course is to be pursued regarding the steamer is expected this morning. Captain W. Worster is in. command of the Wakanui. the other deck officers being: Chief, Mr. Barnes; second, Mr. X. S. Nve; third, Mr. J. B. Nicholson; fourth, Mr. J. S. Boycott; fifth, Mr. A. Kirkham. The engine department is under the control of Mr Crystie, who has with him Messrs. Bush, Ber.ce, McGuire, and Campbell, Mr. G. Lane being chief refrigerating engineer. The Wakanui left London on July 3 and Capetown on July 29. Arrived at Hobart on the 20th. and no passengers being allowed to land, the voyage was resumed to Auckland at 11 p.m. the same night, the harbour being reached at 4 p.m. yesterday. It is probable that after fumigation the steamer •will be permitted to berth at the wharf to discharge her cargo of general merchandise.

THE BEDHILL.-HEAIT WEATHEE.'.'_ The Tyser liner Eedhill. Captain J. H. Browne, arrived from New York and Australia yesterdav morning, and anchored in the Stream for medical and Customs inspection. Dr. E. W. Sharman, port health officer, visited the steamer shortly after her arrival, and after the usual inspection was granted pratique, and she was berthed at the Queenstreet Wharf, and the work of discharging cargo proceeded with. The Eedhill, which is one of the large cargo-carrying class ol steamers trading to this colony, left Isew York on June 9, and arrived at Melbourne on August 8, after a passage of 60 days. The steamer met with some very tempestuous weather at times during the voyage, especially when crossing the Southern Ocean. Gales of terrific strength, with mountainous seas, prevailed, during which the steamers decks were swept, a quantity of coal and deck cargo being washed overboard. Upon discharge at Melbourne the steamer proceeded on to Sydney, and after putting out further consignments resumed the voyage to Auckland on the afternoon of August 19. Passed Cape Maria Van Diemen at 9 am. on the 25th, and anchored as above. Strong northerly winds, with a heavy; beam sex and rain showers, prevailed on the passage across. Messrs. T. and S. Morrin, Limited, are the local agents for the steamer, which will leave for Napier, and the South on Friday next.
