DROPPED DEAD IN THE "STREET."
AN OLD RESIDENT'S SUDDEN END. At about a-quarter.past nine last night, r.n elderly gentleman named Thomas Kennedy, whilst walking along Itararigahape. llr.<vl; suddenly fell down on the footpath on the opposite side of the road to .the Newton Post Office, and on the bystanders going to his ■ assistance;: was found to havo ; expired. A lady who witnessed the occurrence, in-, formed some lads, • who ran • along ; to the police, station and told Sergeant Hendry. The} latter promptly repaired ,to the spot, and sent for Dr. Goldio, who, however, tiriild only , pronounce life to be extinct.: - ; Sergeant Hendry thereupon had the uody: removed to the morgue. '• The deceased was an old arid well-known resident of Auckland, and served: in -the Maori war. ; He was a nephew of the late Dr. Kennedy, of Auckland, and was a relation, by marriage, to Mr. J. 0. Macky, of Macky," Logan, Steen, arid Co. • >.'.' Mr. •■ Kennedy had' latterly carried on a rent and debt collecting business. • He boarded at the -house of Mrs. Purdie, in Crammer Road, Ponsonby. He left triers at about five minutes to* nine last night, and both ; then and : earlier in the evening, , appeared to be in his usual health arid spirits. He was about 65 years old, and was single. An inquest will be . held to-day.
