In the presence of the colonial Premiers, the 'Indian princes, the Agents-General, and Imperial Ministers and ex-Ministers, illuminated addresses and services of plate "were presented to Lords Roberts and Kitchener in v recognition of their services in the South African war. The ceremony took place in the Guildhall, the presentation beins made by the London City Corporation. In replying, ■ both- eulogised the army and the excellent services of the colonials. Lord Kitchener especially praised his " brave colonial comrades" for their fine spirit and the loyalty which had made them sacrifice their private interests to share the dangers and hardships of the campaign. v He added that as long as that spirit exists we, as a people, possessed all the qualifications for Empire. It was only requisite that our leaders and rulers should properly direct that spirit in order to ensure its efficient use for the common benefit of the race.
