PRIZE COMPETITION PHOTOGRAPHS. The current number of the Auckland Weekly News contains a wealth of attractive illustrations, covering a wide range of subjects of popular interest. A prominent feature of the issue is a series of photographs of Te Aroha, one of Auckland's most popular tourist and health resorts, and the Middle Thames Valley. Viewjr'of Te Aroha Sanatorium, Domain, and recreation grounds, together with industrial pictures, groups, and snapshots, and a splendid panoramic view of the town from the Domain, fittingly illustrate a charming and popular resort. Excellent views of the Thames Valley include Morvinsville Junction railway station and staff, and soenes from Manawaru, Waihou, and Gordon settlements, and give acknowledge of the progress of a rising district and of the way in which the dairy and stockraising industries are carried on there. Photographs taken at the Thames-Auck-land football match on Saturday last, include the teams taking the field, the end of the first spell, the finish of a passing run, and a good line kick, ■ and graphically illustrate New Zealand's national game as it is played in the Northern centre.

Pictures taken at the Wellington Racing Club's Winter Meeting give a view of His Excellency the Governor and party at the first, day's races, the lawn and saddling paddock, and Mr. J. Reginald's Hippowai winning the Maiden Hurdle Handicap. A series of South Sea Island photographs, token by the Weekly News special photographer during the recent excursion of the s.s. Waikare to the Islands, portrays life in the tropics, typical groups of Fijians and Solomon Islanders, charming Island scenes, and a representative group of Waikare excursionists on the return trip to Auckland. Selections from our third prize photographic competition, and scenes in the Far North, include industrial views, bush scenes, types of Maori life, and picturesque laud and seascapes, depicting in charming guise some of the beauty spots* of our New Zealand coasts. Numerous other views, groups, and portraits, including pictures of the New Zealand Premier and party in South Africa, and the recent destructive fire at J. D. Roberts and Go.'s premises, Stanley-street, together with abnadance of interesting letterpress, contribute to an unusually high-class artistic publication., which for general interest stands unrivalled in the colonies.
