[by telegraph.—press association.] Wellington, Thursday, The result of the 1901-2 competition for medals offered to the volunteers for the best rifle shots in each island are : — North Island.—Gold medal for the best shot in the island: Private Thomas Kerr, of the Victoria Rifles, Auckland (109 points). Gold and silver medal for second best shot: Private J. Carson, of the Victoria Rifles (IC3). Silver medal for the best shot in the Auckland district: ColourSergeant Aylett, Victoria Rifles (104). Wellington district: Sergeant Hobbs, of the Hastings Rifles (108). South Island.— shot in the island : Private Arthur Burford, of the Tima.ru Port Guards (112). Second best: Private S. Lindsay, of the Studholme Mounted Rifles (109). Best shot in Canterbury : Sergeant J. K. Mac Donald, of the Timaru Rifles (103). Otago: Captain A. McKenzie, Queen's Rifles (108). Nelson : Private J. W. Ching, Waimea Rifles (105).
