Notices of Motion: Mr. Philson s motion, as follows, was dealt with:"That a return be prepared and presented to the Council showing the total payments for water supply other than in connection with water tor domestic purposes, for the year ending December 31, 1902. Such return to specify particulars as to scale or special arrangements paid by each of the undermentioned businesses or occupations: Auckland Harbour Board, water for dock; latrines on wharf, Ferrv Company, hotels, racecourse, various butchers, bakers, livery stables, racing stables, and any other extraordinary supplies. Ihe Mayor, sneaking to the motion, said that the return would be information to new councillors, but he could not see any prospect of lowering the water rate, as the residents were getting the water at a most reasonable rate now, and it would be unprofitable to sell it for less. All extraordinary supplies had been agreed upon from time to time with the Council, and the arrangement made had been satisfactory to the Council, and had not been complained of by consumers. He suggested that the motion be altered to read, ' That the return be prepared and presented to the Waterworks Committee, and considered by them." Mr. Philson agreed to this, ana Mr. Bau'lf seconded the amended motion, which was carried. ' , Names for Streets: Mr. Murdoch moved, " That the undermentioned streets be named: (1) Portion of Victoria Road, by entrance to Victoria Wharf, be called Marine Square; (2) Beach Road East be called King's Parade; (3) Beach Road West be called Queen's Parade." The Mayor maintained that in view of the period, East Parade should be called King Edward's Parade, and not King's Parade as suggested, Mr. Alurdock said that there were going to be a lot of Kings, and he would object to the alteration. Eventually it was resolved that the road from the dock to the junction of Victoria Road be called Queen's Parade. From Victoria Road to Clarence-street East, taking in both public reserves, be called Marine Square, and from this point to the torpedo yards be called King Edward's Parade. Donation: W. A. Jenny wrote stating »at in recognition of the Council's services to him in connection with his boat Flip, and on account of his interest in municipal progress, he would feel honoured, on the acceptance by the Council, of a small tribute towards improving King Edward's Parade. In the event of the erection of pillar posts near the steps, he offered to donate candelabra for their ornamentation, and further signified his intention to, donate a cast-iron fountain, to be erected near his boatslip, for the use of yachtsmen and the public. It was resolved to accept the liberal gifts with thanks, and supply the water and connection for the fountain free of cost.
