FLOODS IN THE SOUTH.
LOSS OF STOCK FEARED. A TOWNSHIP UNDER WATER. * [BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] Nelson, Tuesday. Heavy rain has been almost continuous for the past week in the city, the record being 2.14 in. The rivers are in high flood, and at some places have overflowed. At Takaka, the township has been practically under water for 12 hours, and communication is cut off from the surrounding district, where considerable injury and loss of stock is feared on low-lying lands. At three o'clock this morning, when the flood was at its height, there: were 18in to 2ft or 3ft of water rushing down the main street, carrying with it everything movable, including a stack of timber from the new hotel.
In the Buller district the mail coaches were considerably interfered with. There was a slight break in the weather this morning, but it is clouding up again.
