THE WEATHER.

The gale which prevailed on Monday blew itself out yesterday morning, and the heavy sea gradually went down. Although in Auckland the weather yesterday was fine, with a moderate north-west breeze, and comparatively smooth sea, heavy rain set in at night, and continued until an early hour this morning. The weather along the coast is still very unsettled. At Cape Maria Van Diemen yesterday the wind was blowing strong from the north-north-west, with a very heavy sea, and at Russell the same conditions were reported. The Northern Company's steamer Clansman, which left Auckland on Monday evening, had a very rough passage to Russell, being about six hours late in reaching that port. The Northern Company's steamer Waiotahi, for Tauranga and Ohiwa, which was detained owing to the bad weather, got away yesterday afternoon, and the Waitangi, for Tairua and Whangamata, left at nine o'clock last night. The Nortnem Company's steamer Ngunguru is barbound at Whangapoua. The barque Northern Chief, bound to Kaipara, is still windbound at Marsden Point. The little yacht Petrel dragged Tier anchor during the gale early .yesterday morning, and was dashed alongside the Queen-street Wharf,' suffering considerable .damage to her hull, rigging, etc.
