THE WORLD'S ENTERTAINERS
The World's Entertainers, an organisation of vaudeville performers which has become famous throughout Australia, and is now completing a successful tour of New Zealand, will commence a season at the Opera House on Tuesday next, the Ist prox. The company is under the direction of Messrs. Lee and Rial, and the form of entertainment presented is "what is termed " polite " vaudeville, which appears to have been received with great appreciation in the big cities of the Australian Commonwealth, and later in the principal Southern towns of this colony. In the introduction of various novel ideas the World's Entertainers are stated to have completely revolutionised the old order of variety business, and are able to provide an entertainment of a refined character, up-to-date, and free from anything in the nature of coarseness or vulgarity. The list of artists is a formidable one, and includes Mr. Chas. R. Sweet, known to fame as the musical burglar ; Messrs. Kelly and Ashby, acrobatic comedians; the Casino trio of musical burlesque and pantomime artists, Miss Josephine Gassman and her Louisiana picaninnies ; Professor Powell and Co., magicians and illusionists ; Arthur Nelstone and Miss Elsie Forrest, in grotesque song and dance sketches; Miss Agnes Mahr, a phenomenal eccentric and toe dancer ; Miss Francis Gwynne, lyric artist; the Sisters Mahr, dancing comediennes; and Mr. Geo. Lyding, the eminent American tenor. The box plan for the season is to be opened on Friday morning at Messrs. Wildinan, Lyell, and Arey's.
