FRANTIC INMATES.
By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright.
Bucharest, June 22. A fire yesterday destroyed the prison at Bucharest.
There were 600 prisoners in the building and they throw themselves against the iron doors, screeching for mercy and cursing the gaolers, who were afraid to unlock the doors of the cells in the absence of soldiers.
On the troops arriving the doors were unlocked, but prisoners who tried to escape were driven back at the point of the bayonet.
